Monday Morning Musing ~ A few of my favorite things!

Good Monday Morning Friends!

Okay...please do not think I have flipped...lol
Yes, those are my hands and feet you see in the
pictures!

I am always a bit late to get on board with what is new,
and painting my nails is one of them.  As an
artist I quit many years ago painting my nails.
Due to my hands in water, glue and just plain wear
and tear, it never was worth the time I spent.
Mind you, this girly girl was sad...;-(!

Until a few months ago, I had never hear of Gel Shellac
on fingernails.  While in Jacksonville, my sister
talked me into trying Shellac.  OH MY GOSH!!!!
I am in LOVE!
My first manicure lasted me 3 weeks with
no problems at all!

To say I am SOLD OUT on this method
of painting my sweet lil fingers, is an understatement!
So...on Friday I went to have them repainted!
This will be a purely wonderful splurge that
I will be doing regularly from now on!

If you haven't heard of...or was wondering what the
fuss is all about...if you are someone who
works with your hands but wants them to still look
pretty for an extended period of time, without
damaging your nail...this is the way to go!

Okay....can I just say BLING!!!
While shopping a few weeks back with my
daughter at DSW I found these darling
Gellie Jems in the clearance aisle!
They were a tad more than I'd usually pay
but the Bling had me at *hello*!

Do you not agree?

Also just tucking in a picture of another sweet
repurposed thrift box I found!
Loving how darling this turned out with all its
vintage laces, ribbons and roses!

Have a great week everyone!

Happy New Year (A little late ;))

Hello friends!

I am a little late in wishing you all
a Happy New Year.

I took a much needed break from my everyday
routine.  I am feeling pretty refreshed and have
already begun to create in my studio.

I am not much of a resolution maker but I do
have a few goals I would like to continue or
improve upon in the coming year.

I would like to walk 10 minutes each day on my treadmill!
Eat more well rounded healthier, smaller, portions, etc...
Spend Time daily in God's Word
Pray more
Enjoy my family and kitty
Do something creative each day to fulfill that
creative gene in me!
Be open to GOD's *them* in my life who
need help, encouragment or just a friend.

That's pretty much mine for this year.
How about you?
Do you do resolutions?

Well I was going to add some recent items
I have created, but alas, blogger will not allow
me to upload.  I will see what the matter is
and hopefully share some later with you!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Merry CHRISTmas from My Family to Yours

Lorena, Gary and Michaela

Merry Christmas
Dear Blogging Friends!

We just took this picture yesterday
to send to our friends and family.
I thought you might enjoy seeing
an update of my sweet family.
I love seeing other bloggy friends
and family pictures too, dont you?

I have decided to take a long and much
needed break.  I have been absent for
quite some time and realized I have
been very neglegent in my blogging.
With wrapping up my many painting and
creating items, helping my New York
friend get (still) much needed items,
being sick with cellulitis
shopping and family time,
a break is needed, indeed.

I want so much to bring
CHRIST in to my Christmas this year.
I wish this for each and everyone of
you as well!

Be Blessed as you Have blessed me!

***Your HELP is Still Needed***

Hi Dear Bloggy Friends!

If you or someone you loved lost
everything they owned,
what would you do?

There are many still in Great need after
*Super Storm Sandy* hit the New York area.
The story is no longer making
the headlines,
but people are still in great need of the
basics.

I have a sweet contact, Indra,
who is in the midst of
of an area that seems to be forgotten.
She has been working since the storm
 hit to HELP others
right around her that need everything.
I was privileged to send out
some gift cards, but am now
 aware that more is needed.
I could NOT walk away.

Will you Help?

What can YOU do?

1.  Help me get the word out.  Could you
do a post on your blog? Share with friends
you know?

2.  You Can Send a Box of Needed items
(see list below).
There is no middle man and I trust
Indra to get items out to those in need.
If you choose to fill a box,
Please, contact me so that I can give
you her address,
I will not print it here due to being
cautious of others who lurk to harm.
Mark your BOX with SANDY.

BASIC Necessities

blankets
winter coats
boots
gloves/work gloves
towels
foil
plastic wrap
cups/plates/utensils
children's toys

3.  If filling a box is something you are not
able to do, could you donate?

I WILL make sure 100% of those funds
 help send boxes and purchase
more needed items and gift cards.
Nothing, I mean nothing is going to me
or anyone else.

Thank you so much for stopping by today
and reading this!

In SANDY'S Aftermath ~ How You Can HELP Someone In Their Time of Need

Hi there my sweet friends!
Like many of us, these past few weeks have been
quite emotional and filled with sorrow by
the destruction we have witnessed.
We have seen how a storm can turn an ordinary
city and cripple it to the core.
Have you ever had something happen and KNOW
in your gut that it is divine?
Last week, just before the storm a sweet
lady purchased some items from my etsy shoppe.
I remembered when I saw it, that her address was
in Brooklyn.  Well, little did I know how GOD
would use that in my life today.
I had contacted her because her check had not yet
arrived. I had also mention I knew that *Sandy* was
probably the problem.  Today she graciously
contacted me, and through a series of emails
back and forth, she shared that she was
very close the the area that over 100 homes had
been destroyed by fire.  She told me that her
sons school had at least 80 who were affected in
some way.  Those neighborhoods consisted of largely
police and firefighters homes.
It broke my heart and I got an overwhelming impression
that I must do something.  GOD brought back to memory our
sermon of last week.  God wants us to
WAKE up our world to see Jesus.  To be HIS hands and
feet, to be a light that shines into a dark and hurting world.
No doubt in my mind but he put precious woman and
her family right in my path for that reason.
What am I going to do?
As of now I am not sure where GOD is leading.
But,
I am getting the word out to those around me and hoped
that my bloggy friends would take the time and
share in this if they can.
Please give to the RED CROSS if you are able as
the clean up and just basic necessities of life are so needed.
Also, Xavier High School , the school where
this lady's son attends, has on
their web page how you can help directly to this area and
also you may donate monies if you are able.
Just click and you will be on this page to get further details.
I am in prayer for leading and direction.
I hope you wont forget those who are still dealing with
the aftermath of this storm and snowstorm they got Wednesday.
Be a LIGHT to your world!

Pink Saturday ~ Fall In Michigan

Hi there everyone!

I am joining Beverly over at
for the weekly
PINK Saturday Post.

I must admit, that fall can be beautiful here in
Michigan.  The variations of colors in the trees is
awe inspiring.

In the past few days I have snapped some pictures of what
has been going on all around me in my sub-division.
Thought you all might enjoy seeing how things
may look here.  We are now probably closer to the later
parts of the colors for this season...but they are bright
and vibrant and so amazing to see.

Here is a peek at how the front of my neighborhood
looks right now.

Below, these are called burning bushes.  They are
a deep green in spring and summer and some turn
bright yellow or red like the ones we have in our front.

These next 2 pictures are in our backyard.

This is our maple and I just love the melon colors
its has right now.

And...I could not resist showing you some MUMs
that hubby I planted this year.  Love the variations
of colors and how they look with our
burning bushes.

But...
what would PINK Saturday be without
a hint of pink?

I did up a fun mosaic of some PINKs I have
listed in my etsy shoppe.
Enjoy!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
Happy Pink Y'all!

GOD's Amazing Creatures~bunnies and birdies, Oh My

Hi Everyone!

So, how is your week going?
Me, well I have been kinda under the weather...but
plugging along..allergy season seems to be in full
swing and I feel it!!!

As my hubby and I often do in the evening, we sit on our
little deck that leads out to our patio.  Many times we are
blessed to sit and watch the birds, bunnies and hummers
move around us giving us our evening entertainment.

So last night when my kitty kept wanting to wander over to our
bushes much to my surprise was this tiny lil bunny baby
frozen just under ou ivy bush.  You almost cannot see him.
The baby hardy moved and I
actually got within 3 feet to take this picture.
Soon afterward it must have tried to go find its momma
cause our Tiger wanted sooooo badly to go over  to this area.

Isn't this just the MOST adorable baby bunny?

As you can see from below, I took a wider view of
where we sit.
We came back from my parents in June just
mesmerized by their hummingbird feeders.  And hubby
and I went and purchased this one within days of returning.

Do you see my birdbath? Well Tiger has claimed this
as his seat...lol.

What is so amazing to us is that you can see how close this bird bath is,
and Tiger often goes right to the birdbath to sit
and the hummers just flit around him and he seems so
oblivious to them.

What facinating creatures hummingbirds are.  They flit,
fight, dash and make a unique clicking sound.  We probably
have 3-5 that are regulars throughout the day.

I found out through checking on the internet that you can make
your own nectar...its 1 parts sugar to 4 parts water...
or
1 cup of sugar to 4 cups of filters water.
Bring this to a boil and then take off the heat.  It must boil
as that releases and gets rid of any trace minerals etc.
Once this cools I keep it in the fridge.

(Sorry about how fuzzy these pix are)..
As we have been watching our Hummers,
we think we may have 2 or 3
different species...Ruby Red Necks, All green
with a white chest...and then I think we have seen one
that may be more brown..names I am not sure of.

They are the funniest things to watch...as they flit and
at times you can get one that becomes very territorial and will
come dipping at one that may be trying to feed.  Often
when this happens you can see them flitting up and all around.

More fun pix...
A few weeks back I caught these two bunnies romping
and playing in our neighbors yard.  I was so amazed that
I actually got shots that show them hoping and playing.

see? too cute!!!

I finding this all so interesting as we live in the burbs.
Yet really close to fields...never have I lived anywhere and
seen these amazing creatures like we have this past
summer.  I love that life goes on outside of our 4 walls.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
Do you have sweet lil creatures that you see
come out to play in the evenings?
I'd love to hear your stories!

Be Blessed,
Lorena

Happy 26th To My Beloved!!!

August 2, 1986

Happy 26th to my dear sweet guy!

I hope you don't mind taking a walk down memory lane
with me.  My wedding was a very special day for us
and our family.  We made sure our families
we all a part of what we did and loved
every minute of the time we had that day!
I was 26 and my hubby was 28.
I, the last of four girls to marry, yet
the Oldest of those four.

It all started on a HOT summers day in Auburn, Washington.
Time: 2:00
Church: Auburn Bible Baptist
Temps...climbing into the 90's
(church had NO air conditioning)

The groom and his bride...finally making it down
the aisle after 5 years of dating!

The bride wore a dress she helped design...and a
sister's friend graciously fashioned it perfectly!
Touches of Victorian and lace, simple lines, with a soft
satin like material...flowing train and button up back!

Awe...the groom gazing lovingly at his *about* to be
wife.

Loved ones who were gathered to witness.
 So dear to our hearts!
The pastor shared from God's word about
marriage and God's plan.

When vows were all said and done,
it was *SEALED* with a kiss.

Awe...I Love you Babe!

It is always so hard to go back and realize just how fast
time goes by.  So much life Lived together. My guy
is my best pal and supporter in all things I do.
I truly know I am WHO I am today because
God put him in my life.

We plan a quiet dinner together out and
hopefully in the near future a much awaited
time away, just the two of us...
as
last year for our 25th my hubby started
a new job that whisked him off for
two weeks to Germany/England during our day.
Finding the right time
to get away has been hard to squeeze in since
his job is so new and keeps him veeeery busy.
How many of us have *life* getting in the way so often
of the things we need the most?

Thanks for stopping by and sharing a special time
in my life with me!

Be Blessed,
Lorena

Would You Pray for Me?

Dear Friends,

Those of you who are prayer warriors I would
so appreciate your prayers today.

Saturday I began to seeing *light* flashes and then
spiderweb like floaties in my left eye.  All day
yesterday I saw floaters and then later in the
evening I was outside and began seeing
funny like sprays.

Of course I went right to Google...and
know that these could be a normal thing
that happens to us as we age...UGH!
But I am diabetic and know that this could also
be more serious.  I hope it is NOT my retina
detatching.

So, I go to see my Eye Dr at 4:30 today.
I would so appreciate your prayers!
I will update you as soon as I know more!

Thank you so much!

The Power of Praying...

Hi Everyone!

Ever so often a book comes along and I realize I need to
share it with my bloggy friends.

Now I am NOT advertizing this or being paid to share this will you.
I am sharing this because of the amazing opportunity and Power we have
as believers to Pray.  And I want others to know about this too.

When my daughter was younger I ran across Stormie Omartians
series of books she's written.  I grabbed the ones that I knew I
would need...The Power of the Praying Parent,
The Power of the Praying Wife...
and yes I got
The Power of the Praying Husband
for my hubby.

I can tell you from my own experience that these books
have made my walk with the Lord closer, I have grown so much
in realizing how Powerful God is when we approach Him in Prayer.
Yes, and I have seen miracles and prayers answered!
But most importantly, I can  release my child to GOD
who loves her even more than I do and KNOW his Will will be done
in her life.

Stormies latest book in her series is
*The Power of Praying for your Adult Children*.
Our children are NEVER old enough for us to not
to be concerned, to protect and pray for them each day.  In my life, God
used the Power of the Praying Parent in a mighty way as a
*go to* tool when my daughter was in grade/middle/high school.
So it was natural that as she is in college,
I started using this book as a Tool to walked
beside my young adult daughter now.
GOD is the one who can hear and answer our hearts
prayers, desires and concerns for our adult
child(ren) if we come to Him.

I am so blessed to be going through this book with some ladies
I have gotten to know through our church Bible studies.  We
are so amazed at what a beautiful job Stormie does by giving
such details specifics, verses and life stories to help
us understand how important Prayer really can be.  It really
is set up to read it all or go to a certain chapter that may pertain
to where you are at, at any given time.

That is why I wanted to share this with you...
I would strongly URGE you to purchase this book if you
have adult children or even younger children.

AND,
one of you who leaves me a comment will
receive copy of
The Power of Praying for your Adult Children Book of Prayers.
Which is a pocket sized book that you can take with
you anywhere.

So to enter just leave me a comment and next
Thursday August 2nd I will be picking
a name from my comments.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

God Bless America ~ Our Founding Fathers

I hope you enjoyed your 4th Celebration!
I ran across this article this morning...
A great history lesson for us all to remember.
Enjoy.

By Chuck Baldwin

NewsWithViews.com

As we approach another Independence Day, I think it would be good to remind ourselves of who those men were that counted the cost and paid the price to bring this land of liberty into existence. Unfortunately, the vast majority of Americans today seem to have very little--if any--knowledge and appreciation for the sacrifices that our Founding Fathers made in order to birth this great country. We can thank the vast majority of our schools (including the institutions of higher learning), major media, political institutions, and even churches for this egregious embarrassment. Accordingly, I think it fitting that today's column will attempt to renew in our hearts the respect and reverence that these great men whom we call Founding Fathers so richly deserve.

George Washington

Called "The Father of His Country," George Washington was, perhaps, the most important man of the founding era. Supernaturally spared during the Indian wars, Washington became the military leader who held the Continental Army together when it was virtually impossible for any man to do so. Without his leadership at Valley Forge and elsewhere, there is absolutely no doubt that the Continental Army would have fallen apart and the fight for independence would have been lost.

Equally significant is the leadership that George Washington demonstrated in the Continental Congress. Without question, Washington was the glue that held the political bodies of the colonies together. Then, add the fact that George Washington was America's first President, whose leadership solidified the colonies into a new United States, and his value to the cause of American independence cannot be in any way overstated.

Think of it: George Washington was the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army. And he led that inferior army to victory over the greatest military force in the world at the time: Great Britain. Afterward, Washington rebuffed a strong effort to inaugurate him as America's king, and led the fledgling nation to embrace republican government instead. Washington presided over the Constitutional Convention that drafted the US Constitution. He was America's first President. Washington's Farewell Address formed the compass and rudder of America for at least the next hundred years and, in my opinion, is the greatest political address ever delivered on American soil. Without George Washington, there would be no America.

Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson was the principal author of America's birth certificate: the Declaration of Independence. In my mind, there is no greater document of liberty ever written by man. When it came to the understanding of human rights, individual liberty, State rights, and enlightenment philosophy, Jefferson had no peer.

President John F. Kennedy once held a dinner at the White House for a group of the brightest minds in the nation at that time. He made this statement: "This is perhaps the assembly of the most intelligence ever to gather at one time in the White House with the exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone." He was probably right.

Jefferson served in the Continental Congress; he was the first Secretary of State; he was the third President of the United States; he commissioned the Lewis and Clark expedition; he was the author of the Virginia Statute For Religious Freedom, which is regarded as one of the greatest declarations of religious liberty ever written; he spoke five languages and could read two others; he knew and influenced virtually every man who would be regarded as a Founding Father today; and he wrote nearly 16,000 personal letters. Had not the British burned much of it in the War of 1812, his library would probably go down as the greatest personal collection of literary works ever collected by one man. Without Thomas Jefferson, there would be no America.

Patrick Henry

Patrick Henry was the colonies' most ardent advocate of liberty--bar none! In oratorical genius, he has never had an equal. Henry was a self-educated lawyer, successful farmer, devoted father of 17 children, and five-term governor of Virginia. Henry was the first Founding Father to defy British taxes, and in so doing was the first who was willing to risk death as a traitor.

Patrick Henry's immortal speech at St. John's Church in Richmond to a gathering of the Virginia legislators in 1775 is regarded yet today as the most influential speech ever delivered on American soil. Probably more people are acquainted with that "Give Me Liberty, Or Give Me Death!" speech
than any other public address ever delivered.

Henry's contribution to the War for Independence cannot be underestimated. As Governor of Virginia (the richest and most populated of the 13 colonies), he supplied the largest share of arms and munitions to the outnumbered and poorly provisioned Continental Army. It was also Patrick Henry and his fellow Anti-Federalists who were primarily responsible for the first ten amendments to the Constitution (the Bill of Rights) being drafted and ratified. Without Patrick Henry, there would be no America.

Samuel Adams

Samuel Adams is rightly called "The Father of the American Revolution." He was a cousin to President John Adams and a graduate of Harvard. He was perhaps the most influential member of the Massachusetts State legislature. He succeeded John Hancock as Governor of Massachusetts. He was a delegate to the Continental Congress and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. He, along with men such as Dr. Joseph Warren, Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, Richard Henry Lee, and Josiah Quincy, Jr., created the "Committees of Correspondence," which became the principle conduit of articles and letters of pro-revolution, pro-liberty, and pro-independence communication between the colonies. Adams was also very influential in the now-famous Boston Tea Party.

Sam Adams was so hated by the British government that they used military force to try and apprehend him, which led to both the Boston Massacre on March 5, 1770, and the "Shot Fired Heard 'Round The World" at Lexington Green and Concord Bridge on April 19, 1775. Without Samuel Adams, there would be no America.

James Madison

James Madison is properly called "The Father of The US Constitution." He was the fourth President of the United States and was the principal author of the Bill of Rights. Madison authored more than a third of the Federalist Papers. Thomas Jefferson referred to the Federalist Papers as "The best commentary on the principles of government, which ever was written." Madison served as US Representative from Virginia and as Secretary of State under Jefferson. George Washington considered Madison to be the preeminent authority on the US Constitution in the entire country.

Madison was a fervent proponent of the principle of divided power. He believed government (especially the federal government) could not be trusted with too much power and worked to ensure the separation of powers within the federal government. He also was a major proponent of State rights and sovereignty. Madison broke with Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton over Hamilton's promotion of the State Bank, and together with Thomas Jefferson, formed what became known as the Democrat-Republican Party. Madison also co-authored with Jefferson two of the most prominent documents of liberty: the Kentucky and Virginia resolutions. Without James Madison, there would be no America.

As we celebrate Independence Day this year, I trust and pray that each of us will reacquaint ourselves with the principles upon which the Declaration of Independence was written, and upon which the United States of America was founded. And while we are doing that, let's be sure we are passing these principles on to our children and grandchildren, because without their dedication and commitment to liberty, there will be no America!

God Bless You,
God Bless the United States of America
